Jan Zeiger completed her Bachelor's and M. Ed. in Elementary Education at the University of Florida and went on to teach 3rd through 8th grades at both public and private schools in Seminole County. She is available to help families who are just starting out as well as more experienced families who need yearly evaluations.
Jan recommends a balanced approach to homeschooling that provides opportunities for hands-on and "delight-driven" learning. The mother of two encourages parents to keep long-term goals for their children in mind while making educational decisions (regarding homeschool or traditional school). These goals might include a great sense of self and a lifelong love for learning in addition to a strong academic foundation.
She also reminds parents that there are no black/white answers when it comes to homeschooling. Every child is different. Every family is different. It is absolutely essential that parents remain flexible and open to new ideas throughout their homeschooling adventures. This will allow them to reflect upon progress and make changes as needed in order to meet the needs of their individual children.
Jan has worked with more than 100 families in the area and has written articles on the topics of teaching and homeschooling for local and national publications. Her approach to homeschooling integrates the traditional subject areas and focuses on life learning, great literature, and relaxed unit studies. Jan is currently pursuing a degree in Educational Leadership at UCF, as well as administrative certification.
