I just wanted to share a brief article I wrote about my family’s experience with food additives. We do “The Feingold Diet” with great results. This may not seem like something of interest to homeschoolers, but actually, learning about how food additives impact some children can be life-changing in some cases, especially when a child is really struggling with behavioral issues. My article is by no means comprehensive so check out the following for additional info:

Also, this is an awesome book:

I have found that my son is sensitive to several different fruits, and his behavior becomes very bad when he is exposed to them. Even as a baby, he would get “colicky” if I ate them and then breastfed him. We used the Feingold Diet for awhile, and now it’s more of a personalized diet that we’ve worked out for him. I would encourage all parents to keep a diet diary and track changes in your child based on foods – it’s so easy to control and it can make such a difference.

We have also noticed that certain food additives greatly affected our daughter who has Asperger Syndrome. Three years ago, we tried the Feingold Diet treatment and have had good success with it helping her attention span, anxiety, and general outbursts.
However, my wife and I found it somewhat difficult to find many of the Feingold-accepted foods, so we created The Asperger’s Store which lists all the Feingold-accepted foods which Amazon.com carries.
Hopefully, this list will be of some help to others.
