From the “about this site” page on Hands on Homeschooling:
This site was created by two homeschooling moms who wanted to see “the best of the best” hands on learning opportunities for the Central Florida area all in one place. This site is about more than just links for activities homeschooled children can be involved in–it’s about honest reviews from real homeschooling parents. We believe that organizing the things to do and places to visit by subject area will be especially helpful because parents who are looking for a particular type of experience for their children will be able to see what’s available and read reviews from other homeschooling parents within a matter of seconds.

Oriental Trading Company sells some really cute craft kits in bulk on their website. I recently purchased some sea turtle craft kits for a homeschool co-op I led, and they were a lot of fun. While I don’t like all of the crafts on their website, I think many of them are really adorable. Definitely worth checking out. Here’s a pic of the one my youngest made:

Next week we’re going to a local marine science center to learn more about sea turtles.
As you may remember, we follow a modified version of the FEINGOLD DIET because our son reacts to food additives. I can’t tell you how many people don’t believe the link!
Here’s the article:

This one is definitely worth reading if you think you might have a “topsy turvy” child..
I Think in Pictures–You Teach in Words
And then of course these sites must be mentioned:
Visual Spatial Resources
Hoagie’s Gifted Visual Spatial Page
Visual Learners
Stephanie Elms of Life Without School blogged recently about the fact that homeschooling parents are always hearing from other parents that they just don’t know HOW we do it.
She responds by sharing a multitude of reasons why, for her and many other relaxed homeschooling and unschooling parents, it’s really the other way around.
I was just reading about Spelling Power after hearing that they recommend formal instruction later on–8 and up. I love the sound of that because I believe in letting kids use inventive spelling to get their ideas out on paper when they’re young and not asking them to focus on correcting everything they write.
I haven’t used it personally but like everything I’ve read about it and will recommend it to clients from now on who are looking for spelling curriculum. Reviews can be found on the Spelling Power website and also on HomeschoolReviews.com.

For the homeschooling moms out there who have heard of lapbooking but aren’t sure what the fuss is all about.. For those who haven’t heard of it and are curious.. For those who would like to learn more. This is a great video that shows a homeschool mom and her child talking about lapbooks they completed together, what they learned, and so forth.
