For Writers
Aug 2nd, 2007 by Jan Zeiger
We ask our contributing authors write honest reviews for the our website and that they are not compensated for their posts. If the contributor has some type of relationship with the business owner, we ask that they reveal this info in their review. Obviously, contributors may not review their own businesses.
This site is about sharing educational experiences for homeschoolers in Central Florida. One review by a writer will (hopefully) turn into dozens of reviews due to the interactive nature of this website. Look at it as an opportunity to share positive experiences you’ve had with in the area, but be sure to include any “cons” in your review if you feel the need. Remember that our readers will be free to comment and share their own experiences, so the site should end up with a good balance of positive/negative reviews.
Hands On Homeschooling writers are asked to post at least once a month, but more frequent posting is encouraged and appreciated. There’s no word minimum for reviews. We just ask that you give as much detail as necessary to convey to the reader why you’re making the recommendation.
In addition to the byline, our writers will have the option of having up to two links included in the sidebar as a “thank you” for their contributions.
- Please proofread carefully and use spellcheck before publishing your review. We want a site that looks professional and is free of typos. If you need another pair of eyes to help you edit, post to the writers group and someone will check out your review.
- Please search the site before you write on a particular learning opportunity. For example, before writing a review of Blue Springs, type “Blue Springs” into the search box to make sure it hasn’t already been done. We do *not* want duplicate reviews. Instead, go to the review that’s already published and add your comments.
- Post unique content only on our website because posting reviews and articles that can be found on other sites can have a negative effect on our Google ranking.
- Remember that all reviews should pertain to resources in the Central FL area. There are many homeschooling sites and directories. What makes us different is the fact we’re focused on local resources for homeschooling families.
- When you upload a review, choose the category (or categories) it belongs in and delete the checkmark by “uncategorized” before publishing it to the site. If you don’t see an appropriate category, let the Alissa or Jan know via the writers group so a new category can be created.
- If you are a homeschooling parent who would like to become a regular contributor, contact Jan Zeiger with your info along with why you want to write for the our website. We’re currently looking for writers who are enthusiastic and willing to share their knowledge of the opportunities for homeschoolers in this area and are able to commit to at least one review a month.
